Labor Rallies in Paris
More Info
Large demonstrations in Paris against a proposed labor reform have drawn tens of thousands of participants and resulted in dozens of arrests. The rallies, led by labor unions (notably the CGT, France’s largest), were organized in response to national legislation that would loosen labor regulations and allow employers to circumvent union negotiations when hiring and firing employees. French legislators have threatened to ban the rallies after several incidents, including vandalism and projectile-throwing. Strikes have disrupted transportation and civic services during the Euro 2016 football championship, of which France is the host.
