#YoSoy132 Movement
More Info
YoSoy132 is a citizen movement made up of Mexican students from both public and private institutions, as well as with supporters from more than 50 cities across the world. The group's name, meaning "I am 132", is a reference to the number of students who made a YouTube videos, displaying their student IDs, to verify that they were in fact genuine students. This video catalyzed the movement after Televisa downplayed a protest against Enrique Peña Nieto at a private university in May 2012. Because there were 131 students, supporters make up, symbolically, the 132nd student. At first they protested against the bias on the part of the Mexican media toward Enrique Peña Nieto, but they have gone on to become a strong, young pro-democracy movement concerned about human rights and social issues around Mexico.
