Domestic Surveillance in the United States
More Info
In a top secret order published by the Guardian newspaper on June 5, 2013, the FBI - on behalf of the National Security Agency (NSA) - requested that cellphone service provider, Verizon, hand over 3 months worth of metadata from phone records. The metadata demanded by the FBI includes subscriber data, locations, times, and duration of calls, and more. Under these orders, domestic surveillance is being stepped up, with the Obama administration effectively intercepting the communication of millions of US citizens indiscriminately. This has served to bring to light other instances of domestic surveillance in the country since the 9/11 attacks and has culminated in public outrage.
