"Shut Down Bangkok" Protests in Thailand
More Info
Thousands of protesters are rallying in Bangkok, Thailand, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The rallies began in late October, 2013, over a proposed bill granting amnesty to ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The bill itself was killed by opposition sentiment, but demonstrators seek to rid Thailand entirely of the influence of its old leader, whose associated parties have been in power since 2001. Current Prime Minister Yingluck is the younger sister of the exiled Thaksin, who had been convicted of abuse of power during his reign.
