When Mark Scott posted a video of himself interacting with an octopus underwater, netizens took it upon themselves to bring justice to the octopus and reported the incident to SSI who then revoked his license as they deemed he had violated 'Ethical Standards' when he harassed marine life. The unreasonable time frame given to Scott by SSI to clarify his position was 72 hours from whence the email was sent but the deadline given was in fact only 48 hours. It was a busy period which Mark Scott had to oversee his dive operation. In that time, SSI had been vocal about public executions over policy and judicial processes after putting him as a member in review status. In the notice of termination, it reads, “In the absence of any defence or mitigation on your part, the Committee has determined the most appropriate action is to revoke your Dive Professional and Dive Centre Membership.”
