Ethnic Albanians have orchestrated a long-running protest in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. The demonstrations are in opposition to an EU-brokered accord signed in August 2015, which grants the Serbian minority more power in local governments, and allows Serbs living in Kosovo to receive financing from Belgrade. Opposition members also decry a border accord with neighboring Montenegro, which they regard as an infringement on land belonging to Kosovo. Protesters point to these measures as the secession of victories won by the Albanian majority when Kosovo gained sovereignty in 2008. Unrest, including the teargassing of parliament on multiple occasions, has sustained since October 2015. Participants vow to continue pressuring Pristina until the current government resigns.
