Women in South Africa face rape, emotional and physical abuse, sexual harassment, and murder. Statistics indicate that in South Africa, a woman is murdered by her husband every 6 hours. More than 40% of South African women have been raped in their lifetimes. Studies also found that the root is linked to the gender hierarchy in South African society, wherein manliness is demonstrated through power over women.
