Corruption in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, corruption is common place among the police and public officials. Some two-thirds of the country has reported having to pay a bribe in order to attain basic services. The corruption has hit the country's poor the hardest, as the corruption at the top trickled down to intensify poverty. Most recently, a corruption scandal among high level officials in Bangladesh caused the country to drop its plans to seek World Bank assistance, after the bank cancelled the credit.
