Freedom of Speech in Turkey

More Info
Turkey has had a long legacy of repressing freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Turkey has a rating of 138 out of 178 from Reporters Without Borders, despite modest reforms in recent years. Turkey's "Anti-Terrorism" law disproportionately targets Kurds, and even expressing sympathy for a state of Kurdistan can be tried as an insult to "Turkishness". Anti-Terror laws have arrested thousands of people, from pacifists to politicians to academics, for insisting on speaking out within Turkish society.
