Discriminatory Practices Against Migrants in Greece
More Info
Migrants and asylum seekers in Greece are subject to abuse, torture, and arbitrary detention by state authorities, and are often targeted by gangs across Greece. Those complicit in abuses against migrants and other foreigners are rarely held accountable. Greek authorities often engage in mass arrests of migrants and suspected illegal immigrants, often with the goal of deporting them back to their country of origins. The judiciary has failed in punishing those who perpetuate violence against migrants and failed to convict those responsible under Greece’s 2008 hate crime statute.
