Prison Abuses in Georgia
Mass protests broke out on September 18, 2012 after video footage of surfaced of Georgian prison authorities sexually and physically abusing prisoners detained at Gldani Prison No. 8. Reports from those formerly detained at Gldani Prison have alleged that prison workers often beat prisoners during intake and as punishments for such innocuous behaviors as speaking too loudly. Citizens of Georgia are now demanding an end to the systematic physical and sexual abuse of prisoners and that all those complicit in these abuses be held accountable.
